June 6…Decision time for my home town.

June 6th - Election Day in Clarksburg, West Virginia

                                                                                                                                                          (fox13now.com)

In eight days, registered voters in my home town will have an opportunity to decide on our future direction. Although my comments are directed locally, they could easily apply to your state, your city, your town.

We have 10 candidates running for 4 seats on City Council  and 3 running for 2 Water Board seats. After  much thought, a reasonable amount of research, and talking with many people throughout our city, I have come to the conclusion that we are at a crossroad. Certain choices will cause our community to take several steps backward. Other choices will begin or continue, depending upon your pint of view,  to move our community forward.

Being informed on the issues and understanding the vision of a candidate goes much deeper than reading a newspaper profile. Being well informed is like holistic medicine - the form of healing that considers the whole person: body, mind, spirit, and emotion in the quest for optimal health and wellness. To make an informed candidate decision, one must look at the whole person and ask: What is their educational background? How have they behaved as a family person? What have they accomplished and how have they achieved these accomplishments. How do they treat the custodian and the bank president? Are their business and personal decisions above board.  Do they talk to me, or with me? Are they listening?

To find the answers, one must read, listen, and question. See how they behave when questioned and challenged.  Compare what they say to what they have done. For a candidate to stand up and tell me what I already know says nothing. But, when a candidate presents a detailed and realistic plan for addressing a problem, that person has my attention.

On June 6, voters in Clarksburg, West Virginia will decide their future direction. Time will tell...

In the meantime, here is something to think about over the next few days:

Do N O T vote for me because:

  • We are of the same religion and attend the same church.
  • We are of the same ethnic group.
  • I have a famous last name.
  • You are friends with my mother, father, brother or sister.
  • I have more and larger signs around town.
  • I make many promises, promises I know I cannot keep.
  • I am a man, woman, gay, lesbian or we are members of the same Union.
  • I am attractive, dress well, and articulate.
  • I have an attractive spouse and two beautiful children

DO vote for me because:

  • I promise only my commitment and involvement.
  • I stand before you with a vision and a plan.
  • I not only point out areas for improvement but how I intend to accomplish the tasks before us.
  • I have displayed honesty and integrity in my personal and business life.

And that is the way I see it.

Until next time,

Michael
